Winery Team Challenge begins with our sommelier presenting a brief history of wine including varieties and regions. Then wine essentials are covered as the group participates in a wine tasting with three whites and three reds, from light to full bodied; complimented by cheese, crackers, hors d'oeuvres and lots of questions from your group directed to our sommelier.

Our professional lead facilitator will then divide your group into teams. Each team will become a different winery. They start by coming up with a name for their winery after being told that they are going to be developing and marketing their own brand of Sangria and Sangria Blanca from ingredients we supply.

The ingredients in sangria vary, particularly in the type of fruit used, the kind of spirits added (if any), and the presence or lack of carbonation.

Winery Team Challenge

A brief history and definition of Sangria is explained; that it is a wine punch typical of Spain or Portugal and is essentially made with red wine, chopped or sliced fruit (oranges, lemons, apples, peaches, nectarines, kiwifruit or banana), a sweetener (honey, sugar or orange juice), a small amount of added brandy, triple sec or other spirits, and carbonated water.

In some regions of Portugal, cinnamon is also added with the sweetener, so that it can spice up the flavor. White wine can also be used instead of red, in which case the result is called Sangria Blanca.

Next, we stage a PowerPoint Wine Trivia contest which helps further educate your group about wines and sangrias. As each team answers 5 questions correctly, they can go to the supply station and pick out whatever “measured” ingredients they want to make their Sangria. Don’t be the last team or some ingredients may in short supply!

Each team will be making two Sangrias; Sangria and Sangria Blanca. Then they will create a bland name for their winery and design a label for each Sangria bottle.

They will then create an ad campaign with a print ad and slogan - and a jingle or song to market their two Sangrias to public.

Lastly, we organize a Sangria tasting contest to declare the winning Sangria and Sangria Blanca.

Winery Team Challenge

This will be a blind test so team members won’t know if they are picking their own Sangria or other team’s! Wine prizes are then awarded to the teams with the first place (and possibly second place for large groups) finishes for the best Sangria and Sangria Blanca.

Wine prizes will also go to the best winery company name, label design and all around advertising campaign.

This is a great team building event that encourages creativity, experimentation, and team support to come up with the best product and marketing plan.

Group Size: 20 to 200 participants

Program Length: approximately 2 hours.

Note: While your group will be sampling six different wines, the tastings are small and are accompanied by food in the way of cheese, crackers, and hors d'oeuvres so they won't be drinking enough to become intoxicated.

The Sangria making/marketing portion of the program is the longest with participants tasting their Sangrias only in an effort to get it to taste the way they want. We can also include non-alcoholic sangria in the Winery Team Challenge.
